Mapping F.C. Opportunities

Urban Col.labs developed a multi-layered spatial intelligence framework for Carlisle United F.C. and Lincoln City F.C. in collaboration with Future Places Studio, combining geospatial analysis with socio-economic and behavioural data to support long-term community and urban development strategies.

The work mapped existing and emerging sports infrastructure across each city and wider region, assessing accessibility, distribution gaps, and alignment with population catchments. This was overlaid with key indices of deprivation to identify priority areas where investment in sports and community facilities could generate the greatest social impact. In parallel, ticket sales and fan distribution data were analysed to understand the spatial footprint of each club’s support base, revealing patterns of engagement, underrepresented neighbourhoods, and potential growth areas.

By integrating these datasets, the analysis enables each club to move beyond stadium-focused operations and position itself as an active urban stakeholder. The outputs support targeted community outreach, evidence-based facility planning, and partnerships with local authorities—leveraging football as a driver for social cohesion, health outcomes, and place-based regeneration.
